Four unacceptable mistakes when driving on a snowy road, which can be costly

1. Off-season tires
No matter how much they talk about the importance of timely changing the car, about 20% of drivers still use summer tires when winter comes. And the fact that summer tires at low temperatures turns into oak, and wears out very quickly - this is still half the trouble.
On summer tires, the probability of skidding on a snowy road is several times higher, and handling is worse at times. The risk of getting into an accident on summer tires in winter is too high to spare an extra hour for a timely visit to the tire service.

2. Snow on cars
With the onset of winter, all motorists leaving their cars for the night in the courtyard will have an unpleasant fate - to clear snow from the car in the morning. However, many drivers in the morning are in such a hurry that they do not care much about it and prefer to clean only the windows, leaving snow on the roof of the car. This is not necessary for two reasons.

First, when the car starts to heat up on a trip, the snow will sooner or later still fly off the car, and it is possible that the driver is on the windshield, blocking his view at the most inopportune moment. In addition, snow left on the roof may interfere with road users riding behind you, as the snow will gradually crumble directly to them on the front. Thus, the complete cleaning of the car from the snow in the morning is not only a convenience, but also safety and should not be neglected.

3. Different tire pressure
A rather dangerous mistake is the lack of control over tire pressure, which sooner or later can lead to the fact that the pressure in the wheels will be very different. Road adhesion in this case may deteriorate significantly. And if in the summer, when the grip of the wheels with the road is quite good, it is not so noticeable, then in the winter on a snowy road, this will lead to the fact that the car will periodically become uncontrollable, especially when cornering. Experts recommend checking tire pressure in winter at least once a week and, if necessary, pump up tires. And if there is no pump, then it's time to think about buying it, because safety is paramount.

4. Inattention on a zebra
If the road surface is snow-covered, then the stopping distance increases by 2-3 times, compared to the dry road. This is a reason to be even more cautious at pedestrian crossings, and to start dropping speed in advance, even if you don’t see a pedestrian on the zebra. As practice shows, pedestrians appear most often suddenly, hence the number of such unpleasant accidents with pedestrians. All because of - the constant haste of drivers, as well as excessive confidence in themselves and in the capabilities of the machine. Hence, such unpleasant statistics appear: during the winter of 2016-2017, 7959 collisions of a car with pedestrians occurred in Russia. And each of the drivers probably thought "this will not happen to me."

For a safe and comfortable ride in the winter, especially in the snow, it is better to take it as a rule: leave the house with a margin of time to be able to drive at a quiet pace and not worry about lost time, dropping speed before all pedestrian crossings. But in this way the risk of getting into an accident with a pedestrian is reduced to zero.
